The SALW Control Roadmap at the Western Balkans Summit in Poznań

Heads of Government of the Berlin Process participants, representatives of the European Institutions, International Financial Institutions, OECD, the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), and the Regional Youth Cooperation Office gathered at the 2019 Western Balkans Summit held in Poznań, Poland, on 5 July 2019, to discuss key issues concerning this region.  

The Leaders reconfirmed the strategic importance of the Roadmap and welcomed the adoption of Action Plans by Western Balkans authorities for the implementation of the Roadmap. The Leaders also acknowledged the key roles held by Germany and France in this process and the political and financial support provided by the European Union, including through SEESAC.

International partners and donors were encouraged to financially contribute to the existing funding mechanisms supporting the achievement of the Roadmap goals, including the Western Balkans SALW Control Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF).

Background information

The Poznań Summit builds on the previous Berlin, Vienna, Paris, Trieste and London Summits in the framework of the Berlin Process, as well as the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Sofia of 2018. During the Summit, the Leaders of the Western Balkans, reconfirmed their commitment to strengthening the rule of law, fundamental rights and good governance in the region. They agreed on the importance of regional cooperation, good neighbourly relations and reconciliation, which are essential for the region to progress on its European path. They also committed to overcoming current difficulties in the region in order to achieve substantial progress in areas such as regional economic integration and connectivity for the benefit of the citizens and economic operators.
