WPON's 2nd Annual Meeting

From 1st through 3rd of December 2011, Women Police Officers Network in South East Europe (WPON) will be holding its second Annual meeting in Becici, Montenegro. The meeting will be organized by the South East Europe Police Chiefs Association (SEPCA) and UNDP/SEESAC, which serves as WPON's Secretariat as a part of its Support for Gender Mainstreaming in Policing Practices in South Eastern Europe project.

Presentation of the Report: "Establishing the Southeast Europe Women Police Officers Network - Research Findings" in Albania

On 17 November 2011, The Ministry of Interior of Albania, with the support of UNDP/SEESAC, will be holding a presentation of the report "Establishing the Southeast Europe Women Police Officers Network - Research Findings."

Regional Training Course on Stockpile Management: 3rd Module - Stockpile facilities and transportation of SALW and associated ammunition

UNDP/SEESAC developed a three-part training course on SALW Stockpile Management designed to help countries in the region increase their capacities in the areas of stockpile management procedures and thereby increase the physical control over the existing storages in the region. Operational level officials, from the defense departments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia attended the third and final module of the training, which focused on Stockpile facilities and transportation of SALW and associated ammunition. This project was funded by the European Union.

Sixth Meeting of the Regional Information Exchange Process on Arms Export Controls

The Regional Information Exchange Process on Arms Export Controls is a SEESAC organized series of meetings where government representatives from Western Balkans countries can exchange information on practices and lessons learned in the field of Arms Exports Control. The sixth such meeting took place in Belgrade on 10 November, 2011.

Press Conference: Presentation of the National Reports on Arms Exports and Third Regional Report on Arms Exports

On 10 November at 11:00h, SEESAC held a public presentation of the newly published National Reports on Arms Exports from the Republic of Albania, Republic of Croatia, Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia. Public officials from the responsible government institutions presented their respective country reports.

At the same time SEESAC Team Leader, Diman Dimov presented the 3rd "Regional Report on Arms Exports for 2009," a unique joint effort, made by a number of countries from the region, to provide a detailed picture of the regional arms exports.

WPON Working Group Developing Guidelines for Gender Sensitive Police Practice

Working Group of the Women Police Officers Network in South East Europe (WPON) met to to develop Guidelines for Gender Sensitive Police Practice Covering Recruitment, Selection, Retention and Professional Development for Women. The meeting was organized jointly by the South East Europe Police Chiefs Association (SEPCA) and UNDP/SEESAC, which is providing Secretariat functions to the WPON through a project 'Support for Gender Mainstreaming in Policing Practices in South Eastern Europe'.

Regional Training Course on Ammunition Stockpile Management: 1st Module - Planning and managing stockpile locations

Handover of the Upgraded Storage Facility in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

On 26 July, 2011 at 11:00h, an official ceremony was held during which the infrastructure upgrade of a storage facility for safekeeping of ammunition cartridge cases was presented to the Ministry of Interior by the European Union (EU), regional UNDP project South East and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).


Minister of Interior, Gordana Jankuloska, received the donation on behalf of the authorities of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Minister-Counselor Dieter Thiel, head of Operations at the European Union Delegation in F.Y.R. Macedonia participated on behalf of the EU, while Ms. Deirdre Boyd, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the F.Y.R. Macedonia represented the UNDP.

Fifth Meeting of the Regional Information Exchange Process on Arms Export Controls

The Regional Information Exchange Process on Arms Export Controls is a SEESAC organized series of meetings where government representatives from Western Balkans countries can exchange information on practices and lessons learned in the field of Arms Exports Control. The fifth meeting of the group, took place on 23 June 2011 in Becici, Montenegro and was attended by the delegations of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

Workshop on Gender and Security for the Women Police Officers Network Council (WPON)

Fourth Meeting of the Regional Information Exchange Process on Arms Export Controls

Regional Information Exchange Process on Arms Export Controls is a SEESAC organized forum where government representatives, from countries in the region, can exchange their practices and lessons learned in the field of Arms Export Controls.
The fourth meeting was attended by delegations from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia. For the first time, members of the EU Council Working Group on Conventional Arms Exports (EU COARM) from Hungary, Poland, and Sweden as well as a representative of the General Secretariat of the Council of European Union, also participated.
