Regional Reports - Electronic Database
The idea of producing a regional annual report on arms exports for South East Europe was first discussed at the EU outreach events in Serbia (December 2007) and Slovenia (May 2008). The proposed production of the annual regional report on arms exports was intended to help consolidate the gains in transparency that have already been made in the region, while also demonstrating an ability and willingness by the countries in the region to uphold the commitments associated with the Council Common Position 2008/944/CFSP defining common rules governing control of exports of military technology and equipment. Under the auspices of SEESAC a regional conference was held in Montenegro (June 2009) with the objective of agreeing on the format of the regional report.
In July 2009, SEESAC achieved a major political breakthrough by securing the political support for the development of a Regional Report on Arms Exports. Government representatives of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia all agreed on the format and timetable for the publication of such a report. As a result, to date, SEESAC has published three Annual Regional Reports, providing a breakdown of the arms export activities in participating countries during 2007, 2008 and 2009. In the world today, a joint regional publication of this kind can only be compared to that produced by the European Union.
