SALW Coordination Meeting

On 1 June 2010 SEESAC hosted SALW Coordination Meeting in Belgrade, Serbia. The meeting brought together several international organizations involved in projects on small arms and light weapons and stockpiles of conventional ammunition. Representatives of NAMSA, the OSCE  Secretariat, UNDP/BCPR and the European Union presented their work on SALW control.

The aim of the meeting was to foster dialogue, further facilitate cooperation and promote best practices between the interested parties. The attendees discussed current and planned activities, cooperation with other international organizations, achievements and difficulties encountered and measures taken to overcome the problems in the area of SALW control and stockpiles management.

SEESAC provided detail information to the participants about the EU Council Decision 2010/179/CFSP of 11 March 2010 in support of SEESAC arms control activities in the Western Balkans, in the framework of the EU Strategy to combat the illicit accumulation and trafficking of SALW and their ammunition.

UNDP Bosnia and Herzegovina offered to host the next SALW coordination meeting.
