Less Weapons, Less Tragedies

On 20 May 2010 UNDP Croatia and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia jointly organized this year's first large event in the collection campaign "Less Weapons, Less Tragedies". The event, aimed at raising awareness of the threat posed by SALW possession, took place in Slavonski Brod and represents the continuation of campaign activities started back in 2007. The event was opened by Mr. Zeljko Prsa, Head of the Brodsko–Posavska Police Administration, by Ms. Ilijana Vrbat-Pejic, Deputy Mayor of Slavonski Brod, Ms. Klara Scuka, representative of the Brodsko-Posavska County and Mr. Hans Risser, UNDP Croatia Senior Advisor and Programme Manager.

The activity was supported by local community leaders and war veterans associations who, together with UNDP and MoI officials once again highlighted the risk posed by the widespread illegal possession of weapons. “Less weapons Less tragedies” campaign events will continue raising citizens awareness and use more proactive approach through local media and local Crime Prevention Councils.

The collection campaign is supported by the European Union.
