First Gender Awareness Seminar in the Military High School
UNDP SEESAC organized the first seminar on gender equality for pupils at the Military High School in Belgrade on 16 December 2015 in close cooperation with the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia.
The seminar was opened by Major Miroslav Ćitić, Deputy Head of Military High School who thanked UNDP SEESAC for organizing the seminar and emphasized importance of raising awareness on gender equality, given that girls started enrolling the Military Highs School in 2014. Girls represent approximately 30% of pupils.
A half day seminar was designed to educate Military Highs School pupils on basic concepts related to gender equality, gender roles; what are gender stereotypes, their impact and how to overcome them.
Thirty pupils (fifteen boys and fifteen girls) actively participated in the seminar. They discussed their personal experiences related to gender stereotypes and developed action points on how each of them can contribute to gender equality in Military High School.
This is the first out of six seminars in the Military High School planned for 2015 and 2016.
